And the Sun Comes like a God into our rooms. All the perfect Light and the Promises.
What is Daylighting? Why is it Important?
Do you remember a time you would sit by the window sipping coffee and viewing the natural beauty – the sun rise or sun set or trees or birds chirping or just watch the raindrops racing? Do you think, it helped your brains think better? OR did it give you the mental peace you required? OR did it give you the answers to your problems? Or did it give you the sense of freshness you required from the monotony of work.
We as working adults spend almost 90% of our time indoors. Nobody likes being stuck in a dull office setting. Will natural light or a view help you become healthier? A Big YES!.
“Modern designers filled the world with buildings and developments divorced from their context, existing as if in some alien realm disconnected from ecology … and place.”
What is Daylighting?
Daylighting describes the controlled use of natural light in and around buildings (Reinhart, 2014). It is the practice of placing windows, or other transparent media and reflective surfaces so thatnatural light provides effective internal illumination during the day.
Does Artificial Light Count? A Big NO.
If given a choice, what will you take – A room with abundance daylight or just an enclosed room with bulbs or even fancy lights. I am sure, you would prefer the former. Artificial lighting is for our convenience and not the only medium to be relied upon. It does not come close to replicating the quality of natural light to have such a positive impact on humans.
More Comfort – More Productivity – More Business
Studies show that people in daylit environments have better productivity and comfort. It gives you the mental and visual stimulation required for regulating your circadian rhythms.
Daylight also helps in producing the neutral transmitters such as serotonin, which is a happy chemical leaving you feel happier, energized and well rested. The transmitter also helps fight depression, anxiety, stress, etc. This is not only great for adults in 9 to 5 jobs but also for children to enhance their learning environment.
